When creating forms, a visitor or exhibitor form, you must choose the field types that best suit the type of expected form answers.
This article covers all fields types that can be used in forms and all the requirements per each type of field as well.
The first step in creating a form is to add the form's fields.
When creating a new field you must choose the type of field.
List of the field types
Here's a complete list of the form's field types that will allow you to create your questions according to the types of answers expected.
(See the image below with the example of each type of field).
Field Type | Meaning | |
answers fields | Text | Use the Text field to collect single line answers from your users. |
Textarea | Use the Textarea field to collect longer replies. That is used for comments, suggestions, additional ideas, or anything that requires long answers.
Select | You can create a drop-down menu with the Select field to list multiple options. The user can only select one option.
Multiple Select | You can create a drop-down menu with the Multiple Select field. Multiple selections are allowed with this field, as opposed to the Select field.
Checkbox | The Checkbox field allows you to create a list of multiple options. Users can select multiple options.
Radio | The Radio field allows you to create a list of multiple options. Users can only select one option.
File | The File field allows the user to upload a file to your form.
form organization fields | Label | Use the Label field to enter a label title and to add a line that divides up sections of your form. |
Url | Use Url Field if you want to share a link with users. It is presented in the form of a button so that users can click and see the link page.
Description | Use the Description field to add a phrase to your form in addition to the titles.
Image | The Image field allows you to add an image to your form. |
In the Select, Multiple Select, Checkbox and Radio fields, it's necessary to separate the options/answers using commas between them.
In addition to these fields there are two more fields that can only be used in specific cases:
Black list
- It can only be used in exhibitor form.
- It's a field for accessing the form. When composing this field, it's possible to list “black” values (numbers or words) that, once entered on the first page of the form, will not allow the exhibitor to register and access that form.
Import type
- It's not displayed on the registration form. It only works for purposes of importing databases.
An example of fields types
List of fields options
For each type of field, there are specific actions that you can select. For example, if you want a mandatory answer question, select the "Mandatory" checkbox.
Here is a complete list of possible actions for each type of form fields.
Action | Meaning | Available for: |
Validation (None, number, Email, URL) | It is used to validate the visitor’s answer. If you create an email answer field, and if you put "email" in the Validation option, the form will only accept email addresses. The same logic is adapted for numbers and URLs. | Text |
Mandatory | It is used for required answers fields. | Text / Textarea / Select / Multiple Select / Checkbox / Radio / File / Url / Description / Cost label |
Hide on media-channel | This option should be selected if you want this answer field not to be displayed in the automatic registration emails sent to visitors and exhibitors. | Text / Textarea / Select / Multiple Select / Checkbox / Radio / File / Label / Url / Description |
Micro Form | This option must be selected so that the fields you are creating are also available in Micro or Micro- Live forms. | Text / Textarea / Select / Multiple Select / Checkbox / Radio / File / Label / Url / Description |
Unique | It is used when the field must have a unique answer for each participant. | Text / Black list |
Dependence | This option should be used when you want to ask a question according to the answer given previously. See the example below. | Text / Textarea / Select / Multiple Select / Checkbox / Radio / File / Url / Description / Cost label |
Filter Options | It is a field that can be used to limit the number of options available for each answer. It works as "slots" available for each answer. When reached, they are no longer available on the form. | Select |
Options (comma separated) | In this field, you can list the options/answers available for the form question, separated by a comma. | Select / Multiple Select / Checkbox / Radio / Black list |
Apply Costs | This option will only be used if you create a payment form. When selecting "Apply cost" to one or more answers, in the next field "Default cost (comma separated)" you must enter the values in cents (euro currency) for each answer, separated by commas. If that value still depends on an answer given previously, you must enter the "Alternative Cost" for each answer, separated by a comma and add the respective dependency question. | Select / Multiple Select / Checkbox / Radio |
Show Title | If you select this option, the field title will be displayed as the title of that field on the form. | Checkbox / Radio |
Show Horizontal | If you select this option, the listed answers will be displayed horizontally instead of vertically. See the example below. | Checkbox / Radio |
Dependence option
This option is used to add one more question based and depending on the user's answer.
When creating a new field/question you must select the question in the Show the field if field, select the operator and type exactly the possible answer (Value) that triggers the new question that you are creating.
Operator options meaning:
- equal to - The field/question is shown when the user selects the value you've defined.
- not equal - The field/question is shown whenever the user selects a different value than the one you've defined.
- in - The question is shown when the user selects more than one value.
How to create dependent fields?
Dependence fields behaviour
Show Horizontal option
The field answers are shown vertically, by default. When you select Show Horizontal option, they are shown horizontally.
